my first weekend back in lausanne and the weather couldn't have been more welcoming. spring brings with it all the things i love about europe. cafés set tables and chairs outside, shop owners fling their doors open allowing the smell of freshly baked bread and ripened unpasteurized cheese to entice passersby, street musicians set up on the cobblestone streets producing a soundtrack for the day, and we enjoy our meals in the sun on our terrace. for our first dinner of the year on the terrace i made ricotta stuffed squash blossoms, spaghetti alle vongole, and greek yogurt with crushed pistachios and macerated strawberries.
living on a lake is never more beautiful than in the spring and we decided to take full advantage on saturday. we packed a picnic basket with the makings for sandwiches and homemade scones and headed to morges to meet up with the stephenson family to picnic amongst the tulips.
the weekend was good to me and to top it off i was given what i consider the highest accolades from nigel (who just happens to be british) when he proclaimed that my scones were just like his grandmother's. it doesn't get much better than that!
notice there are no pictures of sunday? when you're marrying a belgian you should accept that the first sunday in april will always be dedicated to watching the ronde van vlaanderen.
