made with love and holiday cheer

maybe it's he lack of crowded shopping malls playing christmas music, or that there seems to be no eggnog anywhere near the country of switzerland, or maybe it's because i didn't get to travel to big tree plantation with my family to pick out the perfect tree but it hasn't quite felt like christmas here in lausanne. i decided this weekend was going to change that. friday with paper that stijn brought home from work and remembering craft projects from kindergarten i made paper chain garland and hung it in the living room. then saturday we went to place de la riponne and bought our first christmas tree together. it may be silly since i'm only here for one more week and we don't have any ornaments but it's twinkling white lights definitely help it look more festive around here. sunday we had a christmas movie marathon including a christmas story, scrooged, and christmas vacation, while drinking wine and hot chocolate. we talked about holiday traditions from our families that we want to bring to our new family. since i was little every year my mom and dad would give my brothers and i an ornament at christmas. they were stored in our very own ornament box and we personally hung them on the tree every year. when we were old enough and lived on our own with our own tree we were given our box as a sort of christmas tree dowry. my family also wears matching pajamas to bed on christmas eve and christmas morning but we're not sure this tradition will make the cut...
what sort of holiday or family traditions do you wish to continue?
